Legislative Advisory Committee

The MSCA Legislative Advisory Committee works closely with the MSCA lobbyist to review potential legislative items of interest to school counseling.

Committee Goals

• Provide timely legislative and policy intelligence in coordination with the MSCA lobbyist, ensuring members receive clear, actionable updates through channels such as the Monday Memo. (Collaborate with Publications & Papers Committee to package and distribute briefs, memos, and summaries)

• Increase participation in Legislative Advocacy Day by at least 50% by the 2026–2027 school year, working with the lobbyist to prepare members for effective engagement with policymakers.

• Deliver leadership and advocacy training that empowers members to influence policy change, developed jointly with the Professional Development Committee and informed by the lobbyist’s expertise and insights.

• Elevate public attention to counseling-related legislation by coordinating with the lobbyist to issue targeted alerts, legislative summaries, and calls to action. (Collaborate with Publications & Papers Committee for public-facing materials)
