The Norman C. Gysbers Award is intended to recognize the school buildings or school districts who have demonstrated an exemplary level of implementation of the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Program that, in turn, has resulted in a demonstrable, positive impact on its students. The Gysbers was developed by a committee that included professional school counselors, counselor administrators, counselor educators, and Missouri Department of Education personnel.
The Guidance and Placement Services Section of the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has developed the SUCCESS Award to recognize school distrcits or individual buildings within districts for their commitment to fully implementing a comprehensive guidance program focusing on the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. Full implementation further signifies that the program incorporates a result-based approach in the evaluation of its program using relevant student data to demonstrate the impact of guidance interventions on student outcomes.
